Re: [LUG] Open Source CDs

Hi folks,
I'm trying to put together a CD with some open source software on it to
give out to a few customers when I fix their PCs. I'm planning on
putting OpenOffice.org 1.1.4, Gimp, Firefox and Thunderbird on the CD,
and if I can I'm going to make it a CD which supports Windows, MacOS X
and Linux.
I like the idea, and have a couple of suggestions for the software.
Firefox and Thunderbird are superb, and OpenOffice.org is just about
good enough. So plus points there. I am not so sure about Gimp,
although I use it (and I don't want to start a flame war) I don't think
that it is a good enough to rival the commerical competitors. Which is
a real shame. Plus, personally, I don't think that it is the most user
friendly piece of software in the world. So I don't know if it is the
best piece of "introductory" software. Though you might think of other
reasons to include it.
Gaim and a bittorrent client might be worth including. They certainly
might get used.
But I say again I like the idea. It will interesting to see how it pans
out and what your customers think of it.
