Having been part of both the IPCOP and Smoothwall support teams, I find
myself in quite a strong position to answer this question.

IPCOP was a fork of the original Smoothwall project back in the 0.99
days of smoothwall... a team of developers got bored waiting for V1.0 to
be out and decided to go out and do it themselves.

~From a technial aspect the differences (off the top of my head) are as
follow;

IPCOP has a greater availablity for VPN client using the OpenSwan as
opposed to the FreeSWAN project used by Smoothwall.

The interface.. obviously

IPCOP supports multiple external IP addresses, where as Smoothwall only
supports this in the Corporate version (and who wants to pay for it eh ?)

Basically IMO ipcop v1.4 is a better product than smoothwall express
v2.0 it has a lot of features only available in the corporate version of
smoothwall.

bit lost with all those wires... maybe i'll look at this when I have
eaten.. sugar levels will go up then !!
