on the 2nd of Jan and I hadn't noticed the error.

I haven't bothered to sync the clock to an Internet clock.
Perhaps I should.

NTP.

You can run ntpdate once a week etc. via cron for the root user. Or (with a 
permanent connection) you can run the ntp server.

# ntpdate ntp.demon.co.uk
