The question is it safe to use a laptop 24/7 in this manner running from its powersupply with the battery left in as a crude UPS system or does anybody out there think this is a fire risk? or have any other advise?
Commonly done. The battery may deteriorate if it hasn't already but you usually only want 5 minutes. Ideally, when the thing goes up in flames, there would be nothing burnable immediately above or next to it, which applies to any permanently running electrical machine. -- Adrian Midgley Open Source software is better GP, Exeter http://www.defoam.net/ -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG Mail majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxx with "unsubscribe list" in the message body to unsubscribe.
