The megaraid drivers have been in the kernel for a while (I have 2.4.26 on this box currently), it is GPLed, and copyright LSI. LSI are the brains behind a lot of RAID hardware, not all of which carries their name, and not all of which is properly supported either. So it is a good sign but not sufficient.
VRMS is happy on this box, but then he doesn't know I told Debian to install that module to make the DVDs work, but I guess even THAT is free software, although possibly illegal in some places (I assume it is legal based on previous European case law).
