Network - what way - file sharing is via NFS usually, but there are
other choices.

Sure you can probably load up the specialist synaptic drivers and the
like but start by treating it as a PS/2 mouse.

You really shouldn't have to rebuild a kernel to get a PS2 driver. You
sure it wasn't just a module that was missing? 2.6 usually uses a module
for PS/2 support.
