anyone know of a method of networking redhat 9 (on a spacewalker server) to

Wouldn't a USB->LAN connection be a whole lot easier? All your software is
designed to understand ethernet, using a direct connection will limit you to
only one piece of software.

If neither machine already has a network card (NIC), you could use two of
these and a crossover cable.

You will inevitably find that the 'major' reason for connecting these two
machines at the moment is only the tip of the iceberg and once you have
connectivity, you'll want to do more and more over the link - it's human
nature. Best to make the link robust, fast and versatile at the start and use
the benefits of universal support.

You haven't said which distro you use so I can't tell if this particular
device is supported (not that I expect problems, it should be fine) but that
also depends on whether the Linux box already has a working NIC.
