[LUG] Debian and starting programs at login

I just debianised this weekend, and am now running Sarge, a lot easier than
I thought it would be, and apart from a couple of glitches with email,
everything got setup easily enough.

The only problem I am having is that when I login using GDM (rather than at
a tty) my .bash_profile doesn't get read. As this is what I use to
start up fetchmail and a couple of other things, this is a bit of a pain.

Does anyone know what I have to fiddle with to either get this file
read when I log on, or where else I need to put the startup prgrams
to get them to start automagically?
