Apparently some MS source code has leaked http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/3484545.stm The article says the leak "could provide a competitive edge to its rivals, who would gain a much better understanding of the inner workings of Microsoft's technology." This would be a very bad thing for the Open Source community. There is a risk that MS code would be used to improve projects like WINE which would have legal consequences. Regards Andrew
It will probably be more noticable when it provides an edge to the virus writers. I'm sure someone will find at least a few unpatched holes and try to exploit them. "what doesn't kill you, only makes you stronger" The result could be that Microsoft patches the code because of the holes discovered from new virus attacks and becomes more secure. Which is half of the problem. The other half is unfortunately more difficult to attack, ignorant users (MyDoom didn't exploit any flaw in the code). <rant>Gone are the days where only people who actually knew how to use computers were using them. Now everyone and their dog has a computer and some of them don't care one bit for learning how to use and look after them properly, these are the enemy. They don't know anything and don't want to learn, they rely on friends and relatives to make sure nothing bad happens to them. They deserve to suffer from the viruses/adware/spyware/trojans they install. It's too bad that they cannot be shut away on a small network of their own to sit in the mayhem that they create.</rant> -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG Mail majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxx with "unsubscribe list" in the message body to unsubscribe.
