This is a sign of the times unfortunately and will lead to another rant of mine on the Campaign for Real Computer Science shortly.
Anyone here who has encountered my ranting previously will know how very disillusioned I am with the state of CS and Higher Education.
| and that was just because you can't demonstrate how stuff works internally in Windows.
That is not entirely true because you can use a checked build and show some interesting stuff with writing device drivers and so on.
However most students taking OS courses who are actually interested in learning (there are some usually) probably choose free.
