The whole point of layered networking protocols is the upper layers don't care how the lower layers work - so it should be identical to any ethernet (or any other) IP network. Obviously there is a risk of packet loss, but many corporate wired networks are badly maintained and lose far more packets than they should, and Microsoft networking protocols seem to survive okay there.
