Then after a good google thrashing came accross a little snippit in a linux
post about midnight commander.
This is the surprise bit it can browse the contents of RPM's and extract
individual files! yay.
All hail the creators of MC!

I can't understand why MC is no longer selected by default when installing a
distro anymore.

It's quick, simple and can also browse & extract from tar files as well as
RPM's.

I always use it for quick browsing from a shell or another console.

Just to spoil things there is a windows clone as well.As there is of
tuxracer,chromium,maelstrom,tuxtype,emacs,etc.....

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery is suppose.

But have you noticed when there is a linux version of a windows program it's
improved upon ?
