I've used VNC over 512k cable here (vncviewer/linux), ISDN/64k in Greece (XP), 
with no problem. It's not as fast as I'd like, but its still better then 
trying to diagnose a problem over the phone.

At work we use a similar product (which no doubt cost money) to do remote 
access to people all over the world.
