I think the nvidia drivers, are version specific,   I upgraded from 8.0 to
8.1 and there were issues with the cd devices, (fixed now).   I assume
however they have fixed the update utility, im 8.2 as 8.1 said there was
nothing to upgrade. It should also be possible to upgrade kde, open office,
etc, with out having to upgrade the entire system, not sure if you can
update individual packages from the 8.2 cdrom.  Open office is integrated
quite well.

anyway I am off to figure out how to remove my nvidia drivers,  set X to
default VGA so I can install the Nvidia drivers, without having nv in the
XF86Config file,  then reinstall the nvidia drivers and hopefully have X
working with 3d accelaration.  wish me luck
