-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 For those of you who have subscribed to the list@xxxxxxxxxxxx recently, this is just a reminder of what the DCLUG website can provide. http://www.dclug.org.uk hosts a complete archive of all messages posted on the list since it began in 1999. The archive is separated into bi-annual chunks and is fully searchable. http://www.dclug.org.uk/linux_adm/archive.html (This is worth bearing in mind when you post to the list, your ramblings will join those already archived and will form part of the wider resource of all LUGs worldwide. The archive is regularly indexed by search engines like Google so your contributions on the list will help Linux users worldwide.) There are also hints and tips on Linux use, links to useful Linux sites and details of how the list works. The members area includes the online survey to arrange local meetings, register your interest in future meeting topics and maybe volunteer to give a talk at a meeting, or book a venue, yourself. You can also add your home page to the members' pages, write a review of your Linux installation online and tell the other LUG members about yourself in the Members Register. Existing members should contact the webmaster for their password to the members area. webmaster@xxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=DCLUG%20Password%20request When you have your password, please feel free to enter your own webpage on the members page using the link provided. The link will be added to: http://www.dclug.org.uk/linux_adm/members.html which is accessible to all internet users, not just members. Please enter your details in the Members Register. None of these details will be accessible to search engines or ordinary internet users, only to members of the DCLUG list so you can be as honest as you like. When did you start using Linux? What other computer systems have you used? Where are you located within Devon and Cornwall / the wider area? What do you do, outside Linux? Interests, etc.etc. The Register now also includes a simple link that can search for the GnuPG/PGP public key of any member using their email address. To help this to work, please ensure that you enter an email address into the Register which is listed as a user ID within your key - preferably the same address as you use to post messages to the list@xxxxxxxxxxxx Everyone with a GnuPG/PGP key is encouraged to upload their keys to a public keyserver - if your link doesn't work, make sure you have entered a usable email address as above and then use this command for GnuPG (linux) keys: gpg --keyserver keyserver.linux.it --send-keys (This will send all keys found in your home directory. If you already have a long list of keys, append the keyID to the end of the command.) There have been numerous messages on public keys and keyservers, so please avoid the queries and remember that GnuPG/PGP public keys are no use if kept private. Send your public key to a public keyserver. With the future meetings survey, you can submit your ideas for future meetings or update your previous selections. Details will be used to match with other D&C LUG members who are able to get to locations near you, members who have indicated a preference for the same venue(s) as you and members who are interested in topics and talks that match your selections in the survey. Please enter your postal town as your first preference for location. Previous meetings have been in Exeter, Notter Bridge (near Plymouth) and St. Austell. Larger meetings (>30) tend to go to Exeter as there are students at Exeter Uni on the list who can arrange equipment and venues at Uni. Smaller meetings are being encouraged across the entire area, from Penzance to Bristol. You can then view the report to see how your preferences match up with others in the group. Once your survey is complete, you can view a report that matches your preferences against other members to provide the basis for a future meeting. Those members who are able to arrange venues or presentations can be contacted direct from the site. Those members who are able to arrange a meeting can also create a "Forthcoming Events" page outside the members area so that everyone can know about it. http://www.dclug.org.uk/linux_uk/events.php If you want to write a review of your current (or next) Linux installation, you can create your review one paragraph at a time. Depending on your typing speed and accuracy, you may find it easier to compose offline and then copy and paste. Please try to make the hardware section as full and complete as you can, include details of where you obtained the distro and any costs involved. Then start with the installation, one para at a time. Click "Move to Post-Install" and continue for configuration and overall impressions once installed. Add your own comments on the install routine, the package choice, getting the system running after install and how easy or hard it was to get to a working system. You can write as much or as little as you need, just click "Add paragraph" at the end of each paragraph and the page will show you what has been entered so far and provide a new box for more content. Completed reviews will be added to the News & Reviews page and can be searched by the D&C LUG script and by other search engines on the web. http://www.dclug.org.uk/linux_news/index.php Any problems, email me. - -- Neil Williams ============= http://www.codehelp.co.uk http://www.dclug.org.uk http://www.wewantbroadband.co.uk/ -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.7 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE+RWN7iAEJSii8s+MRArgLAJ9JtBpnBDkQS1vMJT3FmDls2CBEIACdE2PI VZ5zHjw4jZI7t97AxNwviMg= =Eb2G -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG Mail majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxx with "unsubscribe list" in the message body to unsubscribe.
