Re: [LUG] Apache 1.3

You can't login as root over a network.

Log in locally, do 'adduser psutton', then 'passwd psutton'

This should work. Once you've logged in over the network, you can then do 'su -' to get to root, after entering the root password.

Hi

Just got this working, under rhl 6.

it seems to be working ok at present. however I don't seem to be able to
telnet from my laptop running windows 98se to the apache server running rhl
6 and apache 1.3. I can get to the login prompt, (which is the farthest I
have ever got with this) but can't login, I think it has something to do
with authentication, can anyone suggest anything please? I also get
disconnected after a few attempts or possibly a certain amount of time, or
perhaps I just can't login as root over a network

It seems I have finally managed to set Linux up to do something useful,
it's a kind of good feeling, and boosts confidence.

thanks Paul
