SUN is giving SOffice 6 away for schools etc in Europe.

Has anyone done a comparison between it and OpenOffice?

Yes, I can't recall where.

SOffice is more polished.
Functions and interface are essentially hte same, there should be minimal
interconversion time needed. Both are close to a generic office suite with
some features relating to addressing or access of files in various places
that are ahead of a certain other office suite.
