When it comes to time, install ntpdate. Sync with a time server like
ntp0.ja.net (I remember) and you won't have problems with time. 

When it comes to power/suspend issues. If the APM module with the latest
2.4 kernel isn't working, then you need to look at ACPI I think.

With laptops, check the linux laptop pages too.
