[LUG] Why I hate Linux ...

I don't really hate Linux but I do get frustrated with it. I'm currently
at the stage of understanding with Linux that I was with Windows 8 or 9
years ago.

I've just got OpenOffice 1.0 (OO) from Linux Emporium, along with
Mandrake 8.2 (yes, I've seen all the posts about Debian etc but lets not
start a distro war).

<prob1>
I've installed OO under Windows and Linux. In Windows, all users can
access and run the program without problem. Under Linux & KDE, the user
that installed OO can access and run the program. Other users can access
it but can't run it.

OO pops a box that says "can't find /home/<name of user>/.sversionrc"

/home/<name of installer> contains said file.

Copying the file to user directory solves that problem.
</prob1>

<prob2>
Any decent Windows install routine will add an entry to the Start menu.
OO doesn't ... so that means manually configuring the menu.
</prob2>

<prob3>
Windows proggies usually associate their extensions. OO doesn't. More
manual work.
</prob3>

Don't get me wrong, I'm quite happy to roll my sleeves up and get my
hands dirty from time to time on the command prompt or messing around in
config files. I just don't think that a decent modern major app such as
OO should be such hard work.

Is it just OO that is this unfriendly under Linux or is it just my
ignorance?

Useful comments welcomed.

Regards to all
