Re: [LUG] Using linux as a desktop OS

I say this because i never use things like the graphical file managers
etc and have no idea how hard they are to use for a new linux *user*. I
have the dubious habit of doing everything I can on a command line, my X
sessions tend to be lots of terminal windows and a browser. And I run
Window Maker on my main pc and blackbox on my laptop, nuff said really.

Well, I would turn this around a bit. Having used Unix/linux for many
years now, half and half with CDE/KDE and the command line, I was forced
to Use Windows 2000 and HP Openview for the Network Management System at
work (not my choice; I was just asked to run it). In that respect I was
amazed at how much of the stuff - Openview mainly - I still had to do on
the command line. There simply was no gui/clicky-pointy way of doing
some things even under W2K.

Likewise I don't use graphical file managers, but rather terminal
sessions; evolution at home (soon to be at work too) and mozilla. As
said, sort of half and half with the command line :-)
