[LUG] website ncdc.gov.uk

I am glad you are undergoing a review of the site. Technically it is
flawed and it could with several improvements.

Firstly and most importantly is does not conform to W3C standards. This
is a grave error, and should be rectified as soon as possible. Web pages
must conform to standards in order to be rendered on different platforms
and devices.

After briefly looking at the html code on your website, you extensively
use tables for layout. This in incorrect. Tables are for tabulated data.
You should perform layout solely using CSS.

You webpage does have some properties that I like. It is not filled with
images which is good. Index pages should have very little images, except
for an optimized logo perhaps. An even these can be done using a good
style sheet.

On a usability perspective the website can do with several
improvements. You should have a look at useit.com. Firstly, I cannot
find any means to search. You should at the very least have a link to a
google site search.

I tried clicking your www.northcornwall-live.com link, but it does not
work. A problem perhaps?

Having documents in PDF is better than have them in a .doc format
however they still make it difficult to get any use of the information.
You should think of coming up with a method to convert .pdf to .html.

You should put the counter code at the bottom of the page, not the top.

good luck with the changes.
