[LUG] GnuPG signatures

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1

Anyone have any ideas why KMail handles a GnuPG signature differently from
Mutt / Evolution? Is there a 'correct' way of handling signatures?

My own and Theo's, show up within the displayed message, but Neil Stone and
now Kai Hendry just end up as signature.asc as an attachment. From looking at
the headers, Theo & I use KMail, Kai uses Mutt and Neil uses Evolution.

It defeats the object of the signature a bit if it isn't evident that the
message is signed!

I use KDE2 on the main workstation (this one) and KDE3 on the laptop (updated
from the LXF DVD on RH 7.2) and the updated KMail that's part of KDE3
enhances the display of the signature verification but only when the message
was also sent from KMail. Messages signed with GnuPG but sent using Mutt or
Evolution just don't display the way KMail ones do. It goes against the grain
a bit when a Linux program behaves in a way that would be deemed 'lock-in' by
a closed source Windows program like OE (which doesn't appear to like GnuPG
at all).

According to the signature text, we all seem to be using the same version of
GnuPG, 1.0.6 (Theo uses 1.0.7 but that still works.)

KMail uses a :
BEGIN PGP ************
SIGNED MESSAGE
Hash**: SHA1
mark ( hyphens removed and * added to prevent confusion by an email client )
and then include the signature as text.

What happens when Theo or I send signed messages using KMail to members using
Mutt or Evolution? Does it show up as a signed message?

What about other email clients, does anyone's email client recognise all
these variations? (Does anyone have a Windows client that recognises any of
the formats?)
