My thanks to neil and theo your pointers led me in the right direction(module and kernel parameter snags) and theo was right you cant integrate extra drives to make Raid5 at least thats what Yast told me :) Not one to shy away from a challenge and suffering from RocketFuel shakes :) I tried a few things and ended up destroying my home directory! Hehe Lets just say i learnt a few valuable do's and don'ts on the way. anyhoo a reinstall and download of patches was punishment enough for my curiosity. when you say it sees it, what do you mean? do you see it on bootup in
dmesg, or can you see the drive itself in /proc/partitions? (which i doubt)
what is the contents of /proc/scsi/scsi, and what directories are there
in /proc/scsi/? in each of the dir's should be files for each channel -
which devices show where?

afaik with my limited knowlege of mix/matching scsi + ide-sci stuff,
the ide-scsi stuff doesn't really hog any real resources, and the settings
on the disks only affect the hardware itself, *i belive*, but don't quote
me on that ;)

it depends on the size of your other drive really (and the speed of it
and the controler), though actually moving the data from one to the other
may prove hard unless you've got someone you can store it temporarilly (i
usually rsync an md device to another box on the network, re-create the
array then sync back) moving from raid0 to raid5 isn't possible, i don't
think without recreating the array.
