Hmmm, might not help but I installed WINE from rpm from the RH7.2 install disks.
I couldn't get the wine i got with Mandrake 8.2 to work at all, but downloading the latest one from winehq.com solved pretty much all my problems, after a couple of minutes fiddling with wine.conf it works really well now.
