Re: [LUG] Plug'n Play??? live near a junction

A freind in Bristol was offered his Broadband access for 20 or 25 quid a month
but he said that was as long as he stayed on it for a years contract.

As to Eurobell having better access. Now you would be lucky !
They don't have the same coverage for ordinary land line users compared to bt
let alone any kind of cable/adsl blah blah blah.
While I'm looking forward to it coming my house ir the last but one at the far
end of the junction box :-<
And I can't honestly say any linux support would be forthcoming as they don't
even list DNS numbers on their web site unless you view the mac dial up
settings which is thei idea of "other" operating systems.
Mind you, when I rang up to ask I was given the dns numbers and told where I
could find them.

I never said that the connections would be reliable or linux freindly support
but that it is coming. Secure. Linux is, but set up a decent firewall.
I can only go by documents that say "not to be viewed outside BT" that I've
seen.
Interestingly, my last mail was sent last night and today I was taken to one
side for a security review procedure. Hope noone where I work has got upset
with my posts !

internet access for fixed fees, broadband & cable in the
next 6 months

Without saying too much, we (as in a few of the companies I run/own/work
for) may well be offering a BT-network-free, linux compatible (yeah, I
know they all are, but really so...), secure ADSL connection within 4-5
months, providing everything goes well (which right now its not :/).

We will be in a position to offer it to more remote users than BT;
providing you have electicity running into your house, or live near a
railway line+junction (I think I've said enough for you to guess where
this is leading) then you'll be able to have it installed - though if it
will work or not, that's another story ;)
