It would never have worked anyway. Since there is the corporate version
of XP which dosn't have the machine locking "feature". So the simplist
option for pirates would be to get hold of this version...

Of course then to make cracking easier you can compare "corporate"
and "home" versions too.

At a guess this cracking was actually done before the launch, but
the writer just had to check it did work with the shipped version.
