My NIC uses the Realtek driver and gives me this on boot:

eth0: SMC1211TX EZCard 10/100 (RealTek RTL8139) at 0xcc92d000, 
00:10:b5:4d:82:ba, IRQ 11
eth0:  Identified 8139 chip type 'RTL-8139B'
eth0: Setting half-duplex based on auto-negotiated partner ability 0000.

as per usual everything depends on the drivers ;)
