Except the US recently admitted it was a stratospheric balloon.

These were alledgedly used to track Soviet nuclear detonations.

Of course little green (grey?) men are a much sexier explanation
than cold war hardware. 

Now I'd almost buy the all our new technology is imported by
aliens, but they would never have put the floating point bug in
ye olde Pentiums.
