I often download src rpms so that I can compile it for my machine rather than
the standard i386, which my processor is not. I understand that some minor
performance boost is achieved in this way.

The most useful part of a *.src.rpm for me is the spec file, sometimes they
need editing, but that is much quicker than writing it from scratch, (for me,
at least). Plus the fact that a src.rpm puts all the files in a place rpm can
find them.

Surely not that illogical???!!
