[LUG]Re: Funds, charities, clubs, membership and associated shenanigans..

Thank you Simon, I take that as good experienced advice. I would be surprised if the total costs exceed even £200 a year and I'm sure we can treat that as petty cash in a pot without any accounting oversight. Anyone interested can see where we spend it just by looking at DCGLUG's web presence.

John.

I'll also recommend not going down the charity route as was suggested earlier - completely unnecessary and adds a huge amount of legal requirement, responsibility and just plain boring work. As someone whose family started a successful charity that took over all our lives for three decades and is still going strong without us, I can say I have a little experience in this, and in watching what was one a fun and enjoyable thing turn into something that was at times extremely bitter and divisive.

A small lug does not need any kind of formal arrangement and I strongly recommend fighting to keep that.  Focus on what brings you together, linux, and only that.

Keep it small, keep it loose, keep it friendly.
