Hi and no problemIf anyone is interested, if they contact Carmen directly she can help get people on board. As far as I know they will be using Discourse as a discussion platform. It may be worth suggesting matrix as a chat platform, as this is open and I think also used by quite a few open source / free software projects.
It may be worth parents getting in touch first and seeing how they can also be involved, parents can support their young people using the platform. This hopefully then helps keep everyone safe.
Hopefully the LUG can be supportive of this, and the project really takes off.

Hi Paul,Thanks for the comprehensive reply. It's very clear now. I was confused because I wasn't sure what the site intended to offer beyond a blog, which is unfair to Carmen, as the site has just been launched.I love the idea, it's like a Linux community for the young generation. I pray that the online meeting place is something more modern than a mailing list, however.I'm in my late 20s and already feel like open source contribution is a daunting task; I can't imagine what it's like for the younger ones./Best regards,/ /William (he/his/him)/ /~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~//If you find this email at any odd hour, weekend, or holiday, it is because it works with my schedule at this time of the week or because I am sending it from the opposite end of the Earth. //So that// you know, you are not expected to reply outside /regular/ working hours!/2025年8月26日(火) 11:23 Paul Sutton via list <list@xxxxxxxxxxxxx <mailto:list@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>>:Thanks for getting back, I think some of the idea is to engage with young people who use / like free software and help them campaign to ensure those rights are afforded to developers in the future and promote what the four freedoms mean. But also to help young people go from learning to code at home, to contributing to free software, either as a programmer, tester, documentation etc. I don't feel young people need yet another group to teach them coding for example. There are more then enough websites, videos that do that, what I feel is important is they can find other people, in the same peer group who also share this interest. In my experience when we bring people together who like computers, programming, hardware it really helps them out of their shells (no pun intended) and find friends, esp if they are usually isolated due to their interest. I think the benefits of that are pretty evident. One of the strengths of the free software community is that we are able to collaborate and share expertise across projects. As Carmen, who runs this has only just launched, the initial group will also be able to shape the project priorities are. Hope this helps, I will ask Carmen about the clarity concerns raised here, so the website text can be made a little clearer.
