Re: [LUG] Skype

We increasingly use Zoom at work. It's closed source (or course) but does have a Linux client, indeed did so before MicroSoft re-animated Skype for Linux. In the meetings I've used it for, Zoom seems to have been simpler to use and more reliable than Skype. I think Skype can be used for groups, though I've never tried groups larger than 4-5 people. Zoom has some ridiculously high limit.

This has come about because of the recent posts about online meetings for the LUG group.

I used to use Skype some time ago. That was back when it was a Linux program. It worked quite well, and I found it useful.

Then it was bought by MS, and I stopped using it. The recent posts, above, got me to wondering about it. So I installed it on my laptop, found out how to switch on the webcam, which I have never used, and increased the volume on the inbuilt microphone. So far it seems to be working well.

It still had my log in details, which worked, to my surprise. Video test and sound test were fine. However, it seems to be just one to one. Or am I missing something?

I am guessing that zoom and jitsi-meet are different. Never heard of them before. If anyone has any comments or info about this I would be grateful.

Thanks,

Neil
