Hello All,
We have an exciting opportunity available for an experienced
Linux
systems engineer to get involved supporting the research of
neuropsychiatric genetics.
Based in the University’s flagship Haydn Ellis Building, you
will be
part of a systems engineering team of 3 computing experts
responsible
for supporting the cutting-edge data science and genetics
research
carried out by the Division and the MRC Centre. To this end, the
team
manages local Linux-based infrastructure in collaboration with
the
University’s advanced research computing facility ARCCA –
currently
including multi-petabyte storage, computer resources with over
500
cores, DevOps tools and collaboration services such as a gitlab
and
wiki. The team also promotes best practice in software
development and
open science to over 100 researchers.
You should be able to demonstrate significant experience and
skills in
Linux system administration, DevOps tools and version control
(git) use
in addition to effective programming and debugging skills in at
least
one relevant language (e.g. Python, R or Bash). Knowledge and
experience
of open source software development, data security, data science
tools
and/or genetics will be highly desirable – the successful
candidate can
also expect their knowledge in these areas to significantly
increase
whilst in the role.

Salary range is £33.7k – £40.3k, open-ended position, with a 35
hour
