You may be able to see if the kernel has been compiled so that it automatically picks up and uses the multiple cores. http://www.raspberrypirobot.com/how-to-compile-kernel/ has a guide to recompile the kernel This is the topic for the next Exeter linux user group meeting so check out their website for more info.
