I don't care what the devs are using to rationalise their stupidity or what some other dolt thinks is best practice: don't transport anything as sensitive as even a throw away password to a mailing list in plaintext, ever. It's idiotic, it makes me angry, it makes Simon worried and it makes baby Jesus cry so bloody well make it stop please.
