Aside from security, the web, are there other compelling forces that will
make folk migrate?

Security should be more than enough reason, but if you're looking for another one, vendor support. Visual Studio 2012 does not create binaries that will run on XP without significant tinkering, and a lot of software vendors are not bothering.Â

They don't want to support an OS that's reached EOL, so new releases simply won't work on XP. As time wears on, you'll start seeing more and more of this.
