For the same money you can build an itx system and have room for more than 1 hdd which is a limiting factor when it comes to the hp microserver which has only 1 sata port.
Just a thought

+1 for the HP microserver - although I don't have one myself, I know many people using them - more for fileserving than desktop use though.

I used a dual-core (4-thread) Atom motherboard for a long time myself though. Built the PC myself and was very happy with it.
