The RaspberryPi SD card will have 2 partitions. One will be FAT32, which you can see from within Windows, the other will be EXT3 or 4, which you would not normally be able to see from within Windows.
The files you need to trim down are, unfortunately for you, in the not-visible-from-Windows partition.
As such you have 2 options.
1) Install additional software in Windows that allows you to see this other partition and its files;
2) Create a bootable Linux USB pendrive (which you can do from within Windows - have a look at the Ubuntu website for directions in how to do this), boot to Linux and then plug in you SD card.

I have got a look at what si on the SD caed on my wifes notebook. So far there is; bootcode.bon cmdline config fixup.dat fixuo-cd.dat issue kernel kernel-cutdown kernal-emergancy start.elf start-cd.elf
...and that's it. Whaich ones can I get risd of ? any ideas? Jon DAVEY.
