Anything newer will work fine using the native nVidia packages. http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/graphics_cards_buy_now_uk.htmlAnything above GT430 will be powerful enough for Ubuntu 12.04+ in my experience. You'll find some good deals on eBay - I did.
I'd recommend adding the nVidia x-swat repos for that latest drivers. I did just that when recently upgrading from 6000 series to a GT430. My whole system is now massively quicker!
