I've had a nightmare trying to buy a GNU/Linux laptop lately, in the
end I wound up buying a 'whitebook' -- essentially a barebones laptop
where you can customize the CPU, and more importantly, the graphics
card and wifi adapter.

Full spec for my new machine is up at:

These machines are typically used for gamers, but lucky for us, there
is a gaming network card company who happens to be owned by Atheros,
so we can buy their cards and get good support in Linux.

Another possible (UK) source might be
http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/laptop-computers/

I have no experience of them but I am currently "considering my options" so if anyone else has knowledge of them do tell.

I ended up buying a laptop with w7 on that I couldn’t get a refund for - it worked out cheaper than buying one without which was bloody annoying but £60 is a lot of difference and I may rite a windows killer in the windows on it one day...
