Its to do with surveying derelict canals and I need the os grid references to line up with satellite maps.

Of-course, you could always wave 2 fingers at the OS and use OpenStreet Map instead... http://www.openstreetmap.org/

I used it on a recent project where I needed web based maps (sort of moving) and it worked really well.
