A Kindle is not a computer, it's quite different. I don't know what the
technology is but the screen is not a computer screen and you need light

It's a dedicated ebook reader. It uses what they call 'electronic ink' to make the writing stand out more, plus I think they have matt screens as opposed to the glossy screens of tablets. The combination makes them, as you said, much easier to read in sunlight.
I guess these things hook up to wifi too,  not that important but a
feature.
It's not just a feature, it is the way you buy a book.
