I've been backing up /home and then manually reloading the packages

I'm about to 'upgrade' a machine from ubu10.10 to 11.04 but I've a
few thousand unwanted packages that I dont particularly want to waste
time an bandwidth downloading . Is there a way of finding out whatâs
been used lately so I can just do a fresh install, load the these
packages and then restore the /home ?

If you have Zeitgeist magic running behind the scenes, then probably.
Other than that, I can't really think of anything that is part of
the system that keeps track of what you've run and when.

I think there is something that (when you agree on being monitored) sends usage to Ubuntu
Now I've remembered that I'll see if I can track it down.
