It will work in Wine but you need the older version of the installer.

Before you install to make it work run winecfg from a terminal and add the application KindleForPc.exe click open and then make sure its set to run as a win98 app.

Now go to where ever you extracted the installer and run it...

Without setting it to run as a win98 app you wont be able to see the login screen. Enter your amazon name and password and you should be good to go....

there is a really great e-book library manager, open source, called calibre. If installed on windows, though was wriiten for linux, you can find a plugin that will convert kindle DRM'd books to epub. This is not so you can do anything bad, but does mean owners of other readers can buy kindle books and then read them on their readers. The plugin was not written or supported by the calibre team.

Sort of on topic ish - does anyone know of a pdf to html converter that will free flow large blocks of text?
