Or it is just myself, neil and another I linux guy I know around Holsworthy being persistant, Oh, and I bumped into John Hansen in the shop too last year. I do think Linux is gaining momentum though and has come of age as they say. I'm not sure how many OS'es he actually sells, Michael in Alpha PC did say he sells very very few and it might very well be a case that installing and setting up Linux may be more profitable, I don't really know though. Windows plus drivers I am sure takes a lot longer in my own experience. > while he sells windows, there is perhaops a market for selling PC's > with Linux pre-installed, there is precidence to sell copies to cover > cost of media, ink, label etc, but if you are charging to install > something then to have a new system fully configured (3d graphics for > exanmple) can take some time, to set up, so again its a service, > > may not make money selling windows, but he may make money being a > supplier that sells Linux friendly hardware, something that is asked > here on a occasional basis. Good points, quite probably it is why he does dabble with Linux a little at home to slowly become more familiar with it, he did actually have a telescope hooked up to his PC and the best software he found was I believe a KDE app, from what he said it blew away the Windows software he tried. Hopefully he may be present at the meeting, I say that because he normally closes at 2pm on a saturday afaik, and I am sure I can persuade him to let me buy him a coke before he heads off ;) -- John Williams My linux blog of notes and guides http://subbass.blogspot.com/ -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG http://mailman.dclug.org.uk/listinfo/list FAQ: http://www.dcglug.org.uk/linux_adm/list-faq.html
