Hey everyone, I'm currently working with a company who have a roadmap to open source but we are not there yet. One step along the way is to allow what I will describe as "non-free" redistribution of the components. That is someone like me could package it up and distribute it from my website in a rpm/apt/tarball as appropriate or at this stage it could go into something like Debian's non-free section. Clearly the end game is open souring the code into some kind of OSI/DFSG approved licence but the company is moving slowly and this first step I believe they will see as working with the OSS community so I'm trying to work closely with them so they can see the benefits and if they see this step as a success its motivation for them to continue down the open source road. I'm not going to name the company currently and me wading in and demanding they open the code now will not achieve anything so I'm just trying to make them see how nice and worth working with us open source folk are and guide them down the open source road! Anyway the point of this email..... They have drafted a redistribution licence but I am unhappy about a couple of points. So at this stage can anyone recommend other packages that have these kind of you can redistribute but not take apart/ disassemble/reverse engineer type of licences I can compare too. My current primary reference is the nvidia-glx package in debian/non-free which has almost the kind of licence I would expect for this situation. But some other references are worth considering. Thanks! Robin
