"Five of the patents which Microsoft claims are infringed are specific
to in-car navigation systems. The other three relate to general
computer operations.

Two separate patents are titled 'Common Name Space for Long and Short
Filenames', while the third is 'A Method and System for File System
Management Using a Flash-Erasable, Programmable, Read-only Memory'."

Surely "common name space for long and short filenames" technology would
pre-date any Microsoft-owned patents? And the FS on Flash-Erasable
PROM too. And maybe even in-car nav systems would pre-date them?

I really hope this does go to court.

Grant.
