Received a reply back. In short: - MS will continue to support current MS office until 2013. As such there is no point changing until required - There is a significant MS ecosystem that simplifies training / use and allows easy 3rd party software addins - There is no "OpenSource" supplier Key problems that do not appear to be addressed: - No strategy of proprietory vs opensource, particularly with reference to emerging standards - No identification of wider associated costs (antivirus software, software costs for new users, education as to alternatives) - Key is Total Cost of Ownership focusing only on: training costs for tech support and end users, collaborating with external suppliers Anyway will ask for details on South West Consortium of Local Authorities framework agreement for supply of hardware and software, before I go back The Corporate Procurement Policy is at http://www.devon.gov.uk/index/democracycommunities/decision_making/constitution/part5/procurementpolicy.htm -- Henry Photocopies or faxes of my signature are not binding.
