I know the Flanders and Swann song, though it predates me by decades. I do remember the "I'm a gnu" adverts for Typhoo Tea though. I'm suddenly reminded of one of our Latin (a dead language children used to be forced to learn as punishment for the crime of not being old enough to leave school) teachers by the name of Elkington. He had a knackered old car with the registration "GNU 1". I bet that's worth good money these days...
