I have 108mbit at home here ... one of the advantages of living in docklands
slap bang in the middle of the 3 major london datacentres :-p

fast internet or clean water and nice beaches ... is a difficult decision for
a man to make.

This is Cornwall you're talking about, right? The decision is between fast internet or hyperchlorinated water and a lot of really crappy beaches.
